It's hard to track what we eat. It's even harder to track our overall caloric and macronutrient intake and their impact our health. Squishymedia's TruePlate initiative aims to provide better tools for understanding our diets and health.

Inspired by our work on the National Cancer Institute's ASA24 dietary tracking tool, we set out to understand how advances in machine learning could be applied to difficult problems in dietary tracking analysis and research. Many tools already exist for consumer-grade diet tracking for weight loss but few approach the stringent standards required for use in dietary research. Squishymedia is developing tools and datasets to bring advances in technology, data analysis, computer vision and machine learning to the problem.
